The Challenge

Raj Bedag is a talented commercial and portrait photographer based in Bangalore. His work was genuinely world-class — editorial spreads, corporate headshots, brand campaigns — but his online presence was a basic template portfolio that failed to communicate the quality of his vision.

Corporate clients looking for photographers for their campaigns would visit his site, see something that looked generic, and move on. He was losing high-value clients to photographers with stronger digital branding. The work wasn't the problem. The presentation was.

Our Approach

We approached this project as a brand-building exercise, not just a website build. The goal was to make visitors feel the quality of Raj's work before they even scrolled to see the images.

  • Designed a full-screen, cinematic hero experience with a smooth parallax reveal of signature photographs
  • Used GSAP animations to create fluid, frame-by-frame transitions between gallery categories
  • Built a custom lightbox with keyboard navigation optimized for corporate decision-makers reviewing portfolios
  • Created separate landing pages for each specialty: corporate headshots, brand campaigns, and editorial work — each with targeted SEO
  • Integrated a booking flow for enquiry that collected brief, budget, and timeline upfront to pre-qualify leads

The Build

The visual strategy was built around speed and immersion. We used lazy loading with progressive blur-to-sharp image reveal so the first paint was always fast, and the visual experience built as images loaded. No spinner, no flash — just a smooth, cinematic entry.

Three.js was used for subtle ambient particle effects on the hero — not overwhelming, but enough to communicate that this was a premium digital product, not an off-the-shelf template. The cursor changed to a custom dot when hovering over gallery items, a small detail that elevated the feel significantly.

Image optimization was critical: Raj's photographs were typically 20–40MB RAW files. We built an automated pipeline using sharp and Cloudinary to compress and serve WebP at multiple breakpoints without sacrificing visual fidelity on high-DPI displays.

Results

The impact was almost immediate. Within 30 days of launch, Raj received 4 inbound corporate enquiries that converted to paid shoots — specifically citing the website as the reason they felt confident reaching out.

  • Session duration averaged 5 minutes 20 seconds — visitors were genuinely exploring, not bouncing
  • Total inquiry volume increased 200% compared to the previous 30-day period on his old site
  • Average project size from online leads was 3.5× higher than his historical average — the portfolio attracted serious clients
  • The site was featured in a Bangalore creative community newsletter which drove an additional traffic spike
"I've had photographers ask me who designed my site. Corporate clients tell me the website is what made them reach out. CodeSquad understood that for a visual artist, the presentation IS the portfolio. They built something that matches the standard of my photography."
— Arjun Krishnamurthy (Raj Bedag), Commercial Photographer

The Principle Behind It

For creative professionals, the website is the first sample of your work. If it's generic, clients assume your photography is generic too. When we aligned the digital experience with the quality of the physical work, the conversion rate didn't just improve — the quality of clients improved. Higher budgets, clearer briefs, more serious engagements.
